A week ago Citilab put the new Lego MindStorms robot space into action with the new mission, “The Lost Treasure”, an exciting adventure based on the Indiana Jones movies. Primary school children aged between 8 and 12 from 17 schools mainly in Baix Llobregat will be able to enjoy the new project. Workshops of around 50 minutes will take place from Monday to Friday with between 400-500 students per week.

The “Lost Treasure” Mission gives the kids a series of obstacles which they must overcome with ingenuity. The adventurer in this case is a robot which they will have to programme to find treasure and fight against a dragon situated in the middle of the board. The objective of the game is to stimulate the interest of the kids in technology, logic, creativity and teamwork.

The first centre in Spain
This centre, the first permanent kids centre for Lego Mindstorms robots in Spain, was set into motion on November 23rd 2008, coinciding with the first anniversary of Citilab. The methodology of these workshops fits in perfectly with the innovative projects whose nucleus is collaborative play.

Citilab is also the first centre in Europe to do the “Lost Treasure” Mission workshops. These workshops were born more than 10 years ago in the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and have progressively evolved in the Scandinavian countries.

At the end of last month, Citilab organised one of the qualifying rounds for the First Lego League, a worldwide competition of Lego robots in which more than 120,00 kids aged between 10 & 16 took part.
