The countdown has started for the robotics and free software workshops in Citilab

Subtitle:
Citilab-Cornellà is organising workshops for the general public to learn how to design robots and ingenious domestic electronics

The objective of the robotics workshop is to stimulate creativity and innovation both in youngsters over the age of 12, and adults, using easily accessible materials. The sessions will take place in Citilab-Cornellà beginning on January 27th and ending in March. There will be two evening courses or ten weeks duration.

Robotics and free software 1 (Tuesdays 17:30-19:00h). Beginners, no prior knowledge necessary. Students will be introduced to programming hardware through practical experiments such as the construction of a traffic light with an audible alarm for the blind, robots controlled online, the popular game of Simon and a Ping-Pong which is sensitive to light.

Robotics and free software 2 (Tuesdays 19:00-20:30). Advanced. Students will carry out exercises to learn notions of basic circuitry, electrical motors, sensors, microphones and various systems of communication. These skills will provide the students with a basis to create their own robotics projects.

Learn to communicate with computers
As well as the Robotics workshops, at Citilab it’s possible to learn programming languages:

Squeak
Concepts such as variables, iterations or conditions will no longer be mysterious words but will form part of our common language with computers, Squeak. To help us out we have our friends, the robots Soft Bots —- they may not have arms, or legs, but they are very good at explaining things and can’t wait to show all the drawings they can do and all of their many abilities.

Squeak is a version of the language created in Apple and Disney by the team of Alan Kay, winner of the Turing prize (the Nobel Prize of computing). Participants will learn the basic principles of structured programming as well as beginning object oriented programming. The course lasts for 10 weeks.

To enrol for the workshops please send an e-mail with contact details to cornella@citilab.eu or telephone 93 551 06 60.
