20 lovers of photography had the opportunity to hear Cristina Nuñez and begin working on Self-portrait, the self-portrait workshop run by the artist which will last 4 weekends and will take place in and around Citilab. With this course, Cristina invites the participants to explore their identity through the self-portrait by using a digital camera or the camera on the mobile phone.
The artist gave two talks in Citilab in which she showed her work and explained her work method. Her work consists of photographing people, types of people, and she has a passion for bringing out the best qualities and strengths of her sitters. Her “charismatic” portraits have appeared in prestigious magazines around the world and a series of photography books.

In 2005 she started to hold self-portrait workshops to improve creativity and self-knowledge at the Domus Academy Milan, FORMA International Centre of Photography of Milan, the University of Bologna , the Rudolf Steiner School in Milan for teenagers, the University of Turku (Finland), Turku Academy of Arts, the Finnish Phototherapy Association, the Tampere University Hospital and soon in several locations in New York City.
She has worked on numerous projects which have been published and exhibited in Italy and abroad:
TO HELL AND BACK, on survivors from the Holocaust ; HEAVEN ON EARTH, a voyage through European spirituality (Mosaique Award 1996, Luxembourg Ministry of Culture); IO SONO, about liberation from drugs (2000) and YOUNG ITALIAN GENTLE MEN, on the next generation of Italian gentlemen (Valentina Edizioni, Nov. 2006).
The workshop
Cristina understands a photographic work of art as an image which encompasses multiple and sometimes contrasting meanings: it deals intimately with the human condition, contains a rich diversity of stimuli to though and feeling, it has a special relationship with time… all within a single harmonious configuration of visual and formal elements. Cristina Nuñez's empowering self-portrait method is a journey into yourself, your emotions, your roots, your relationships and your place in the world, structured in three parts, with several self-portrait exercises in each part:
MYSELF: self-portraits expressing your emotions, competencies, potential identities, physical body, significant places and roots (family album).
MYSELF AND THE OTHERS: relationship self-portraits with your family members, lover, friends, work colleagues, boss, etc.
MYSELF AND THE WORLD: self-portraits expressing relationship with your own groups, with unknown people, with your community or a foreign one. Relationship with the media.
All the participants’ attention should be directed to the inner experience, which is always successful, because it will always tell you important things about yourself.
