Sun, Sea, Sandwiches & Social Media… It’s PodCamp Spanish Style

Subtitle:
Spain is different, so a Barcamp here could hardly be run-of-the-mill, as the small seaside town of El Masnou played host to the second ever PodCamp Barcelona
Image01:

Friday 19th September El Masnou became a centre of the virtual world in the whole of the Iberian Peninsular, as all of those interested in the full scope of Social Media converged on the town for a BarCamp unconference.

At the PodCamp Barcelona, just as @ BarCamps around the world, the participants are the speakers and vice-versa, as “experts”, followers, fans, bloggers, podcasters and geeks gathered for the second edition of what is fast becoming a fixture in the calendar for Internet and new media fans.

The event was supported by the Ajuntament de Masnou (Townhall) who laid on a simultaneous translation service for those who had flown in from overseas for the event and so that nobody would miss out on the exchange of knowledge going on between speakers of Catalan, Spanish and English. The day was covered by Maresme Digital TV, who offered the sessions live via streaming.

Geeks, activists & entrepreneurs
PodCamp Barcelona felt priviledged to have amongst its number several experts in social networks, who provided their diverse views in the field of education, social action, the impact of New Media – and its content.

Gregor Gimmy, CEO and founder of Sclipo demonstrated the possibilities opened up by this educational tool which possesses all of the functions of a social network.

The Citizens’ Web for colaborative action Nuestra Causa (Our Cause), a platform designed to resolve problems – bottom up - was presented by Ricard Espelt.

Steve Lawson, an independent musician who maintains complete control over his output and creativity, demonstrated the range of Amplified, a project connecting multiple networks with a common goal.

Twitter strategy, in this case for building a brand, was outlined by Albert García (Obokaman) and Alex El Puig (Manager Deportivo).

David Allen talked about the use of blogs and social media as the keys to success behind his Mac20q, which has reached 3,000 downloads since launching relatively recently and how the cross-fertilization of podcasts can prove decisive.

Citilab at PodCamp
Citilab´s contribution came from José Antonio Galaso, who shared with the attendees his experience in the creation of new work spaces. A new concept in the world of the workplace and its inter-relation with others which he himself experienced some months ago and is detailed in his blog Historias de un sin oficina (Stories from the officeless).

Citilab will be putting this model of co-working next monday 28th September for Breakout, a pilot experience where we will all work in the open-air at a business-park, the WTC Almeda Park at Cornellà de Llobregat, as part of the Festival Breakout taking place in New York from 17th september to 18th october.
