Motivation
It's a mistake to consider the process of aging a disease. Even if it is true that the main item of the health expenditure is related to the attention to the elder population, we'll agree that, more and more, elder people live longer and healthier. Therefore, it is possible to contribute in a more creative and active way in social activities of all kinds. More precisely, regarding the Knowledge Society, many studies indicate that the elderly are least connected to the Internet, despite the fact that the Internet is increasingly depending on its users' innovations. In this context, should we think that elder people have an important role in the design and construction of the new Internet?
The Senior Lab was born with the will to build a new social appliance giving priority to social innovation and exploring the changes the TIC need to adapt to people, especially to those that are not yet on the Internet and less connected to the TIC: elder people. First, social innovation; later, technological innovation.
The motivation of the project is to design a social new appliance, a Living Lab of elder people, where their opinions can be heard, and to allow a new generation of information technologies and communication adapted to these new demands.
Specific characteristics:
The starting line are the associations and communities that the elderly have created, such as assoaciative and training mechanisms like the Universidad de la Gente Mayor de Conrnellà de Llobregat.
Also we rely on managerial projects that have confirmed the role of elder people in the managerial restructuring processes. In this environment, a social and technological community will be created to develop innovation projects like the Useful Life Memories and TIC intergenerational learning.
