Dr. Alec Couros is a professor of educational technology and media and the Coordinator of Information and Communications Technology at the Faculty of Education, University of Regina, Canada. Alec works with undergraduate and graduate students to develop their understanding and competencies in working with technology and media in K12 environments. He has given hundreds of workshops and presentations, nationally and internationally, on topics such as open education, social & networked learning, instructional design, digital citizenship and critical media literacy.

Secondary students study NGO’s at Citilab

Last week 60 children presented their projects about various NGO’s in Citilab. The idea is the high point of a stage of secondary education in which the students can choose a topic to study, in this case Non Governmental Organisations.

Before the the presentations, the students had studied the different NGO’s and prepared written work about them taken from many sources.

The event began with a talk by the Fundación Vicenç Ferrer.

The Senior Citizens University of Cornellà classes start in Citilab

The project has been created by the UNED a la Ciutat de Cornellà, the local branch of the Spanish Open University, which belongs to the Centre Universitari Xarxa Area Metropolitana CUXAM, (the metropolitan network of university centres) and is directly associated with the UNED de Terrassa. The idea is to provide over 50’s with training programmes with different formats and objectives.

Ability in “ electronic reading” to be evaluated in the PISA assessment

In May students from 60 countries will take the exam of the PISA assessment, the programme for International student assessment, which tests the knowledge of students around the world every three years. This year the exam will feature a new subject along with maths, science and reading; the electronic reading test according to an article published by the El Pais newspaper on February 9th.

Thousands of people enjoyed technology at the Children’s Christmas Fair

Citilab has taken part for the first time in the Children’s Christmas Fair of Cornellà, now in its sixth year. The stand, which had a large number of visitors, grouped together various themed activities where kids and their families could discover in a fun way playing as a valuable tool for learning and fomenting the culture of technology. The mayor of Cornellà, Antonio Balmón, took an active interest in the activities of Citilab during his visit to the Fair.
